“A single accident took away his livelihood. Together, we can help him build a new one.”

For many years, Dume, a father of twelve children from a village near Malindi, worked tirelessly to provide for his family by tapping coconut palm wine (mnazi). It was demanding work, but it enabled him to put food on the table and care for his family.

In February, tragedy struck.

While working, Dume fell and fractured his right shoulder. The injury left him unable to work for three months. Like many families living in poverty, he could not afford medical treatment and endured the pain at home because there simply wasn’t enough money.

In late May, generous well-wishers raised KSh 3,000, allowing him to seek treatment at Malindi Hospital. Medical examinations revealed that although the fracture was healing, the injury had aggravated an earlier fracture in the same arm, resulting in osteoarthritis. Sadly, he was informed that he could no longer return to the physically demanding work that had supported his family for years.

Today, the responsibility of feeding a family of fourteen rests largely on his wife, who survives on casual farm work. On the days she finds work, she earns between KSh 200 and KSh 300—an amount that is not enough to meet the family’s daily needs.

Rather than providing temporary food relief, Farina Foundation believes in creating sustainable solutions that restore dignity and help families become self-reliant.

Together with the family, we have developed a plan to establish a small-scale poultry farming enterprise that Dume can manage despite his physical limitations.

The project will begin with:

  • Construction of a simple poultry house using locally available materials.
  • Purchase of 20 broiler chicks to start the first production cycle.
  • Essential equipment and feed to support the initial flock.
  • Ongoing training, mentorship, and business monitoring by Farina Foundation to help ensure the project becomes a sustainable source of income.

The proposed poultry house has been designed to support continuous production cycles, allowing the family to earn a regular income while gradually expanding the enterprise over time.

How You Can Help

We invite compassionate individuals, businesses, churches, and organizations to partner with us by supporting this project through:

  • Cash contributions toward construction materials, chicks, feed, and equipment.
  • In-kind donations, including building materials, poultry equipment, feed, drinkers, feeders, or broiler chicks.

Every contribution, regardless of its size, brings this family one step closer to financial independence.

Your support is more than a donation—it is an investment in a sustainable livelihood that will help a father provide for his children once again.

Together, we can replace uncertainty with opportunity, restore dignity, and help this family build a brighter future.
